Educators in VR is so excited about the School of AI in ENGAGE XR. You’ve been asking us how to get access and experience this amazing historical AIs, and now is the time. It’s open to the public through the end of October. While I often recommend, I’m insisting everyone visit the School of AI to have a transformative experience meeting and talking to some of the greatest minds in history.
On the opening interface of ENGAGE XR through VR, 2D, or mobile, you will see the School of AI promotion. Click it to access the persistent lobby world that hosts access to the AI historical figures. The process is easy.
You will be greeted by an interactive billboard listing the AI historical figures. Click one and be whisked away to their portal. Walk through it, wait a moment for the scene to load, and begin your amazing interactive session.
Hover your cursor or pointer over the character and click the ASK ME button over their head, wait a beat and start talking when it says Listening. Some of the historical characters are quite verbose. You may ask them to repeat what they just said to hear it again, giving you more time to absorb and process their words.
Visiting Historical AI Characters in VR
I traveled back in time to an open field where a red airplane sat next to Amelia Earhart to talk to her about her passion for flight, her many attempts to take risks, and her plans to fly around the world. We spoke of the logistics and adventures, but also about her determination to encourage women to be braver and vital members of society, helping to found women pilot associations that are still vital today.
I visited Benjamin Franklin in Boston and spoke to him about his definition of liberty and freedom, his work with the planning and writing of the foundational documents of the United States, and the lawsuits brought against him for defamation and libel that continue today to define freedom of speech.
I climbed on the bus with Rosa Parks to talk about her life and what brought her to become a figurehead in the fight for civil rights. I also asked her about her definition of liberty and freedom, comparing it to the philosophies of Benjamin Franklin.
I also talked to Eleanor Roosevelt about her thoughts on women in politics, then spent time with Harriet Tubman, and Marie Curie. The weird thing with these women is that I started to fan girl as I’ve held them as such powerful historical characters in my mind, reading their biographies and studying their lives since I was a child, I actually felt slightly intimidated. It was a fascinating experience as I normally have no fear talking to strangers. These weren’t even real people, just AI NPCs, but it felt real. Talking to them felt like an honor and privilege.
A big draw is a chance to talk to Leonardo da Vinci. That was a little easier for me as he was further back in time, and such a vibrant historical figure in our lives, incorporated into so much of our media and entertainment today.
I asked Leonardo what led to him becoming such a diverse artist, exploring all aspects of art forms and inventions. His words were so profound as he shared his movement from artist to inventor as not a sudden transformation but an evolution in thought.
As an artist, he thought to capture beauty. However, his curiosity drew him into the mechanics of movement, then flight, taking his observations of the anatomy of humans, then animals and birds, to then mix art and engineering to better understand, and ultimately improve, the human experience. He explained that the artistry of invention lies in a seamless dance with productivity and artistry.
He told me that his work with his master in Milan as an apprentice opened his mind to the potential for creative expression across multiple disciplines. I asked him that if he could thank his mentor, what would he say.
If I were to express my gratitude to my esteemed, Master Andrea Del Verocchio, I would speak from the depths of my heart with words woven and reverence and admiration. My dear master, your guidance has illuminated my path through the realms of art and knowledge with each lesson. You nurtured my spirit and sharpen my skills instilling within me, a passion for exploration and understanding your artistry, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. It remains a profound inspiration in my own journey.
I am forever grateful for the foundation you provided, which has allowed me to blend creativity with invention to see the world through an ever curious lens. Your contributions to my life have blossomed into the very fabric of my existence. I owe you the deepest thanks, for you have shaped in me, not just an artist but a seeker of truths in both art and science.
I could have spent hours, lost in the words and minds of these historical figures. I asked questions beyond what I would have asked as teacher or student, and really felt like I was spending time with them.
The historical AI figure that most caught me off guard was Socrates, the philosopher. The programming of this character makes him so natural, I found myself truly lost in the conversation, spending the most time with him.
The AI Socrates didn’t just answer my questions, he asked me questions. We continued with an in depth discussion that explored not the challenges he faced when his questions toward the Athenian government were interpreted as challenges instead of thoughtful inquiry, but turned it into a conversation about how I deal with confrontation in my own work and life. He kept turning it around, asking me why I thought this way or that, or what I thought were the most important things to consider on each topic.
This was startling. I thought about how powerful this would be for a student, to learn directly from the masters and historical figures themselves. It is transformative.
On the topic of speaking from your heart and your truth against the opinions of others, he spoke of what we now call discernment and fact checking. “General understanding transcends popular opinion. When one delves deep into the depth of knowledge, one oft unravels the truth in popular opinion.”
Conspiracy theories have been around since the beginning of speech and storytelling, so I challenged Socrates to tell him his thoughts. I paraphrase here:
The need for belief in such theories oft arise from a deep seated desire to find patterns where patterns don’t exist. It is the natural need of for us to seek certainty in an uncertain world. Yet, we must have passion for the truth and seek it out no matter to better understand ourselves as well as others.
Save a good chunk of time and make an appointment with yourself to visit the ENGAGE XR School of AI historical figures. There are 21 sets of characters. In addition to the ones I’ve mentioned, they include Cleopatra, Neil Armstrong, William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, Vincent Van Gogh, Isaac Newton, Joan of Arc – it’s a powerful list of the greatest minds throughout history.

Access to the School of AI historical figures is free for all ENGAGE XR accounts.
I’ve been asked by several members of Educators in VR when the classes for the School of AI are starting. It is my understanding that this isn’t a formal course or school, but their name for the collection of AI historical figures you may use in your schools. In my experience with these historical AIs, this is almost a master class to talk to and learn directly from the…real thing? Okay, not, but close in many ways.
ENGAGE XR has added guard rails to ensure the discussions with these characters don’t go off rails. You may ask Benjamin Franklin and other characters about their indiscretions and they will respond with a family-friendly, safe-for-school-and-work answers. You can’t ask the characters about topics and people outside of their scope, such as asking Ben Franklin what he would think of Trump. He will respond with the fact that he didn’t know such a person in his lifetime, therefore he has nothing he could add to that conversation.
To use these AI historical figures for your own class, school, or business, they will be available to ENGAGE XR Enterprise customers upon arrangement with their team. ENGAGE XR has also released information for ENGAGE Enterprise users on how to create your own AI NPC
