The immersive learning firm continues to scale its AR/VR solutions to learning groups worldwide
This week, Avantis continues its expansion mission, bringing its brand of immersive learning to worldwide education institutions and groups by recently debuting new ClassVR integrations at the Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles Unified).
The move follows a two-year relationship with Los Angeles Unified, in which the education group leverages ClassVR software for in-class instruction and extracurricular enrichment programs.
With the recent partnership expansion, Los Angeles Unified will scale the use of ClassVR to carry over to enrichment programs before and after school.
The move is part of Los Angeles Unified’s Instructional Technology Initiative, which aims to boost education opportunities with AR and VR solutions. It also reflects Avantis’ current worldwide adoption mission, which sees the XR firm deploy its services across 90 countries, with 300 supporting marketplace partners, in roughly 14,000 schools, 200,000 classrooms, and 2 million students.
Huw Williams, CEO of Avantis Education, added:
Los Angeles Unified has demonstrated its commitment to being a pioneer in educational technology by placing students at the forefront of innovative learning tools. Through our collaboration, we’re proud to help the district expand its use of VR technology in a thoughtful, strategic way, supporting the district’s vision of making learning more engaging and future-focused.
The ClassVR service from Avantis will allow the Los Angeles Unified education group to access a broad library of immersive learning tools and resources, enabling students to interact with XR lessons.
Avantis Education Speak on Worldwide Scaling Journey
Avantis Education also recently entered into a partnership with ICESCO. This collaboration pilots Avantis’ ClassVR product in four Islamic member states.
Alistair Hayward, Avantis Education’s Chief Revenue Officer, spoke exclusively with XR Today to explore the ICESCO partnership and the firm’s broader worldwide expansion, explaining that the ISECO partnership is “pivotal to the adoption of this technology across the Muslim world.”
“It’s a big investment for both organizations,” he added while also noting that Avantis is “determined to make it extremely exciting for the students and successful enough actually goes into a policy where STEM is a requirement, immersive learning is a requirement, and VR is the chosen technology.”
The partnership was announced at the ICESCO Ministerial Conference held in Oman, and the initiative was officially launched after this event. The recent ICESCO/Avantis partnership demonstrates how XR technology can help democratize education worldwide and improve access to personalized learning and digital learning tools.
Hayward added:
The basic view of VR as a tool is what it can deliver where the other methods or technologies either can’t deliver or don’t deliver. There’s a PWC research paper, which states that students using VR are four times more likely to retain knowledge and over 2.7 times more confident in applying learning. So, just as a technology to actually engage students it’s becoming recognized as a real winner.
ICESCO uses Avantis solutions to enhance teaching and support investments in educational technology, including offline usage where technology is unavailable; Hayward noted that the firm secures “a number of projects in which excluded students use Avantis technology to fill that learning gap.”
The partnership between Avantis Education and ICESCO aims to implement immersive learning solutions through a 21-week program, which includes student training, teacher professional development, and impact analysis deliverables.
Hayward explained:
It’s a very rounded solution as opposed to getting headsets from one vendor, MDM from another, and content from somewhere else because the chances of getting that up and running very quickly in a classroom with different components are more challenging than if you’ve got an integrated solution.”
Avantis Education aims to provide an engaging service that enables teachers to take students on virtual field trips through enhanced integrations. The company is also expanding its product line to reach new students and regions.
For example, earlier this year, Avantis introduced its Eduverse products to the St. Vrain Valley Schools, a school district in Colorado. This partnership gave all 60 schools in the district access to Eduverse’s library of immersive VR and AR services. The new VR solution was integrated quickly after the announcement. Additionally, Eduverse was added to the district’s ClassLink platform, allowing teachers to access the content using a single sign-on password and simplifying the process for new users.
